A washcloth/ A fern

Getting together and remembering
Some times we had
When you were sad
We were bad for each other
A wrung out wash cloth next to
A perfectly kept fern

I’ll forget how to take care
Of myself without a keeper
Starts blur when finishes approach
You keep going
Where I stood still
Sweating and shaking
Trying to appease your will

Where cold hearts thrive

It’s always winter
sprouts grow
Frost shatters and slows
Cutting through
Only surface deep
to create such wonderful pictures
which I’ll never know

We sleep through time
To keep our warmth together

It’s always winter
Cold sticks with me
Through seasons to
come Beds lay empty and unmade
Notes left and notes left
Sores ache and hearts tire
To such bleak setting Suns
burn for someone
But not I who sleeps without
sleeps always

Superficial Burns

Do you remember the electricity?
It’s certain lines that carry it between
you and me
In the nights I remember
where we talked
I leave them there for
they give me hope
and you nightmares

We’ve become cold
like the wind and snow off the
jackets we stripped to lie in separate beds
We came together
only to break so harshly as a winter floe

That night we spent warm
Among the lions and bears
We felt each other in what seemed
meant to be
Close only wanting to bare
only for that short time
We could only experience so little
Because together we were fixed
and we are meant to stay broken

I don’t want you
Remembering
It won’t be right
It will fade with time
While mine flourishes
nurtured in flames and sunlight
You’ll torch and char it
Spread lie on it’s beauty
Spray paint on a masterpiece
You’ll claw at it like you once did me
wet it with tears and spit

and leave it to dry
where it will only freeze
As hearts have
left alone too long
They never bloomed nor hatched
only birthed ice and flames

14.1.14

The small writing on her hands
That you run your hand over
Reminds you of that thing you share in common
The reason you came together

You became so close
almost a couple, almost complete
Her smile shines and reflects yours

A complicated case of caring for each
Has made things so confusing
because they both can’t confess
to the other with feeling guilty
That the other can’t take
the compression of having the weight
of  another companion on them

We try to help each other
and we do
Maybe that’s all we need

10.1.14 The Word of the Lord

And we’ll see if we’ll make waves
I wonder when we’ll see each other’s
bodies slim and streamlined
Covered in animalism and
striking heat coming over the mountains

Heat from a searching lord who wants
to keep something so special between us
He can not stand to know we are happy together
Waves and echoes of your piercing scream reach him

Yet without the scream
the waves of pain and passion we could not be
Together we may fall and fail
We can fight to no avail

But if you haven’t noticed this story keeps going
There is no
end this while you still can
You’re writing
Or the lines down your cheeks will keep running
will keep scrawling on the page
